Entrance bursary program

 

The purpose of this program is to encourage as many young people as possible to enrol at a Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles campus.

 

Francophone students from any of the secondary schools or adult education centres in the area from Sainte-Anne-des-Monts to Matapédia as well as those on the Magdalen Islands are eligible for four bursaries (welcome, leadership young entrepreneur and immersion). The program is also open to anglophone students from Eastern Shores school board schools, including those on the North Shore and the Lower North Shore.

 

Eligibility criteria

  • Students completing their secondary school Year 5 in the year they submit their application.

Or

  • Students who already hold secondary school graduation diplomas (DES) and who are enrolling in a college program for the first time.

Students must submit an application for admission to a program of studies at a Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles campus during the first round of applications via SRACQ . To receive a bursary, payable over two semesters, students must remain enrolled for full-time studies in a program at the college after the end of each semester's course cancellation period.

 

 

 

List of entrance bursaries

 

Welcome bursary  ($500 per bursary)

College admission bursaries for new students admitted in one of the four campuses. Need to complete an application form(Download the form prior to open it withAdobe Reader)

These bursaries will be awarded by random draw from amongst all eligible students:

By secondary school:

At least one bursary will be awarded per secondary school located within the designated area (unless there are no students who meet eligibility criteria at a given school).

By campus:

In each campus, if no student is favored by the first random draw (by secondary school), the Foundation will proceed to another random draw between elligible students.

Applications must be received by July 1st, 2017.

 


Leadership bursary ($500)

At least one bursary will be awarded to a graduate of a secondary school in the area for his or her involvement and/or remarkable leadership in extracurricular activities at school while maintaining a good academic record. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of a personal composition and the recommendation of the student activities advisor at their school.

Immersion bursary ($500)

At least two bursaries (1 for French immersion and 1 for English immersion) will be available to students who wish to pursue their studies in their second language (total or partial immersion - at least two courses in their field of concentration or general training). The bursaries will be awarded by random draw; application is automatic.

 

Young entrepreneur bursary (5 bursaries of $500 )

The foundation, seeking to support the college in its efforts to develop an entrepreneurial spirit, offers bursaries to new students at one of the institution's campuses.

At least one bursary is awarded annually at each campus ($500 each) including two at Gaspé ( french and english sector) unless there are no candidates at a given campus who meet the selection criteria.

An entrepreneur is an individual who is a project leader and who has founded or taken over a business by investing cash, human or other investment capital.

 

 Criteria used to evaluation applications for the Young entrepreneur's bursary:

 

Applicants must:

  • Made application to be full-time students at a Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles campus ;
  • Have developed an original idea likely to earn them profits;
  • Have invested time, energy and money or other assets to build on their initial investment;
  • Have fully analysed the risks and the means that need to be put into place to bring about the success of the project before it is undertaken;
  • Have kept the business's books to be able to analyse its production costs;
  • Be able to ensure the business's survival for longer than one year;
  • Clients and suppliers will have to be able to speak of their experience with the entrepreneur.
